This small town with a population of about 1.000 people is situated at 28 kms from Malaga and 24 kms from the bustling town of Velez-Malaga.There is easy access from the coast and a daily bus service to both Malaga and Velez-Malaga. The village is 237 metres above sea level and is surrounded by mountains, the highest of which is the Santopitar rising to a little over 1.000 metres.
Local industry is based mainly on the numerous vineyards in the area but on the banks of the Borge river which flows close to the town there are plantations of orange, lemon and a wide variety of fruit trees which thrive in the warm climate. The church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario in El Borge is one of the most interesting religious architectural monuments in the region. It was consecrated in May 1505. Modern day El Borge has many services including shops, banks, bars and restaurants as well as a municipal swimming-pool for the needs of the local population. One of the many whitewashed villages waiting to be explored and enjoyed for its easy-going and stress-free lifestyle.
