Situated about 100 metres above sea level this village has a population of 700 inhabitants. It has always been considered in a sense as the gateway to the Axarquia, being situated as it is on the eastern perimeter of this lovely region. For flying enthusiasts it is conveniently close to the Axarquia airport which has a school for pilots and a landing strip for light aircraft. There is excellent access to the town which is less than an hour by car on the new motorway from Malaga airport. Shops, bars and restaurants cater for the needs of locals and visitors and there are some shops. The infrastructure of the area has been greatly improved over the last few years and around the town there are extensive plantations of avocado and mango trees.
